Family Fun at The Pound House Historical Farmstead & Museum

A day trip to the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead, located in Dripping Springs, TX, is the perfect place to take the kids and learn about the history and heritage of Dripping Springs and the Hill Country. The farmstead, which is the oldest structure in Dripping Springs, serves as a museum dedicated to the life and times of Dr. Pound, his family and descendants.

The Pounds built the two-room log cabin in the 1850s; the farmstead was the hub of the community serving as a medical office and hospital, church sanctuary, schoolhouse, and social gathering place.

Visiting the grounds of the museum and farmstead, visitors can take a guided or self-guided tour of the smokehouse, barn, corral, windmill and “hot frame” cellar. A visit to the farmstead feels like taking a step back in time to a part of history rich with pioneer grit and spirit.

Four generations of the family occupied the farmstead over a period of 130 years, until 1983. About a decade later, the farmstead was rightfully deemed worthy of being added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 28, 1995.

Beyond touring the museum, you can also attend one of the many family friendly events that take place at the Farmstead. During the summer months children can attend summer camps, watch a movie in the park, or partake in Summer Sundays where kids can play old fashioned yard games, or enjoy a picnic underneath the 500 year-old Heritage Tree.
